Offered for sale: an exceptionally rare, monumental upright music box by the renowned Symphonion Music Works (Leipzig). This magnificent piece masterfully combines mechanical craftsmanship with the prestigious, luxurious furniture design characteristic of the German Gründerzeit era.
Cabinet & Appearance
The magnificent, two-part cabinet is crafted from high-quality solid oak and can be easily disassembled for transport (upper cabinet housing the music box mechanism / lower cabinet containing the disc storage compartment). The piece's architectural design is characterized by fully sculpted columns, richly decorated capitals, floral rosettes, and an imposing pediment featuring the original carved lyre motif.
The upper door features the original, artistically frosted glass panel bearing the elegant, gold-bordered inscription "Symphonion Music Automaton." It offers a clear view of the fascinating, rotating disc mechanism.
Technical Specifications and Features
Dual Comb System (Sublime Harmony): The mechanical heart of the system consists of two perfectly tuned combs. This ensures an incomparably deep, full, and orchestral sound.
Coin Slot and Mechanism: The music automaton is authentically activated via the historic coin slot and wound using the original crank located on the side. The mechanism engages smoothly. A centrifugal governor regulates the playback speed to perfection. Integrated Disc Compartment: A true highlight is the original tilting disc compartment located within the base cabinet, where the large perforated metal discs are stored safely and stylishly.
Condition and Scope of Delivery
The music machine is in beautiful, authentic original condition, displaying a characteristic patina, and is ready for immediate use. The musical mechanism has been professionally inspected. Twelve original perforated metal discs are included.
