2.249,00€ Ex Tax:Restored Vierlande chest in walnut and oak from 1823. This chest, adorned with intricate marquetry, is in excellent condition and shows only minimal signs of wear. It features several typical characteristics of regional furniture art from the Vierlande (a marshland area southeast of Hamburg):
The vase with flower bouquets (known as "Kruutpott"), flanked by birds, is a standard motif of these chests. The rosettes and geometric patterns within the octagonal cushion panels are also highly characteristic. The upper band, featuring the bride’s name (Garderut Eggers) and the year (Anno 1823), is the classic identifying mark of a dowry chest. The chest has a slightly domed lid and rests on turned baluster feet (bun feet), typical of the style between 1820 and 1840.
Vierlande furniture art flourished between 1750 and 1850. Such chests were commissioned for weddings to store the bride's linens and dowry. The name "Garderut" is a Low German form of Gertrude, emphasizing its regional origin.
